WOOD
Two years of intensive practical research at Norra Backen, Sweden.
These images trace the process at the heart of the production: clay gives form to the imagination, Shakespeare’s words enter the landscape, and the actors discover the forest through their own bodies.
Clay bodies
Each actor was blindfolded and given seven minutes to fashion a clay self-figure. From these small bodies we began to discover sound, movement, relationships and scenes.
Words in the wood
Lines from A Midsummer Night’s Dream were tied among the trees and discovered through performance, allowing language, movement and the landscape to generate the work together.
Love and entanglement
Performers exploring love, foolishness and transformation at the roots of the wood—an actor-centred forest made through bodies, voice, rhythm, breath and attention.
